Frank A. Skube, 63, of Babbitt and formerly of Ely, died Saturday, April 
17, 2004, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. 
He was born on June 24, 1940, to Fredrick and Helen (Russ) Skube in Ely. 
He graduated from Ely in 1958. He then served in the U.S. Army in the 
101st Airborne Division. He worked for Reserve Mining in Babbitt for 26 
years. He also founded and operated Skube’s Bait from 1970-1973. From 
1987-1988 he attended St. Cloud Tech Institute for plumbing training. 
He worked for a year with WN Plumbing. In August of 1989 he went to 
Antarctica to work as a heavy equipment operator for six months. He then 
worked for Northshore Mining in Babbitt for 12 years retiring in June of 
2002. 
Frank and Patricia moved to Babbitt in May of 2002. Over the years he 
enjoyed his time outdoors, fishing, hunting, trapping, gardening, being
with his family and spending time at the cabin. 
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Jane of 35 years; daughter, Marcy 
(Jeff Mathews) of Winton; son, Frank Patrick (Patty Ann) of Babbitt; 
two daughters from a previous marriage, Bernadette of Washington and 
Colleen of California; brothers, Albert (Margie) of Ely, Edward (Delores) 
of Babbitt, Bernie of Ely, Ronald (Marlene) of Ely; grandchildren, 
Alecia, Joshua, Jonathon and Jason; many nieces and nephews. Family 
and friends will miss Frank and wish him peace and love. 
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Helen Tulla. 
Memorial services were held on Thursday at the Evangelical Lutheran 
Church in Babbitt, with the Rev. Charles Barnes officiating. 
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. 
Family services provided by Kerntz Brothers Funeral Home, a Bauman 
Family Funeral Home in Ely.
