Dr. Frederick L. Rayman, Jr, 84, of Ely died at St. Mary’s Hospice in 
Duluth on April 25, 2004. Fritz was born to Frederick and Lucy (Thomas) 
Rayman in Austin, MN on October 17, 1919. He graduated from Austin High 
School in 1937 and went on to graduate in dentistry at the University of 
Minnesota in 1942. Fritz served in the US Army Medical Corps during WWII, 
from 1942 to 1946, and later as an Army Reserve Officer until he retired 
in 1967. He married Jacqueline Callies in Clinton, IA in 1945. 
Fritz practiced dentistry for 40 years. He lived in Austin until 1981 
when he moved to Ely. He was manager of Singing Wilderness Concerts, and 
active in Community Concert Series, Ely-Winton Historical Society and the 
Ely Nordic Ski Club and a member of the Congregational and Presbyterian 
Churches. 
He is survived by his children: Tom and Fred of Ely, Carl of Austin, 
Sarah Kingston of Ely and Laurel of Austin; grandchildren: O’Neill, Hudson, 
Dylan, Jeremiah and McCartney; and sisters: Florence Gunderson of 
Flagstaff, AZ and Sarah Marmeh of Miami, FL. Fritz was preceded in death 
by his wife Jacqueline. 
Visitation with family at 1 p.m. on May 13, 2004 at First Presbyterian 
Church in Ely, with services at 2 p.m. Services provided by Bauman 
Family Funeral Home in Ely.
