Edward Alvin Powers, 63, of the Ely area and Greensboro, NC, died June 24, 
2004 at Moses Cone Hospital. Edward and his wife Joyce were summer residents 
on Lake Vermilion and attended First Presbyterian Church in Ely.

After retiring as associate dean of the University of North Carolina, 
Greensboro, Powers took up wood turning and his pieces were shown at Kess 
Gallery.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. He is survived by his 
wife Joyce and daughters Paige and Courtney.
