Esther Ellen Nelson, 91, of Ely dies





Esther Ellen Nelson, 91, of Ely passed away Monday, March 19, 2007 at the 

Ely Bloomenson Nursing Home.  



She was born on February 20, 1916 in Winton, the daughter of Hugh and 

Pearl Doran. In 1920 her family moved to Section 30, where she attended 

School. On April 12, 1952 she married Edward Nelson. The couple worked for 

Tomahawk Lumber Company. Ed worked as a foreman and Esther ran the company 

store. When the company folded, the couple went into business for 

themselves creating the Edward B. Nelson Logging Company. They retired in 

1978.  



Following their retirement the couple enjoyed traveling the United States 

and wintering in Texas. Esther was a true woodswoman and enjoyed anything 

to do with the outdoors including deer hunting, fishing, berry picking and 

wild ricing.  She also loved collecting antiques and helping her 

relatives. 



Esther was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters, Germen, 

Hugh, Peter, Elizabeth, Pearl, James and Patrick Doran and a nephew, 

Michael Doran. 



She is survived by her husband Ed; nieces and nephews, Suzanne (Paul) 

Shuster of Ely, Pat (Cheryl) Doran of Embarrass, Charles Doran of Eustis, 

FL, Joan (Dale) Robinson of Daytona Beach, FL, Kathleen Doran of Texas and 

Linda (Mike) Rawson of the Twin Cities, MN. 



Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, March 23, 2007 at St. 

Anthony's Catholic Church in Ely.  Father James Scheuer officiated.  

Burial will be in the Ely Cemetery.
