Frances (Strlekar) Moroni, 95, of Eveleth died Monday, May 17, 2004, at 
the Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital. 
She was born Feb. 20, 1909, in Eveleth to Anton and Mary (Ahcan) Strlekar. 
Frances graduated from Eveleth High School and Eveleth Junior College and 
from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., in 1930. She taught at the 
new School 84 in St. Louis County for a year, then at Proctor for four 
years. Frances was married to Peter Moroni in Eveleth on June 11, 1934. 
They lived in Ely for 40 years and she was active in the National Council 
of Catholic Women and St. Anthony’s Church. She was also on the steering 
committee for the new St. Anthony’s Church. Frances was an active member 
of Ely’s Music and Drama Club and a former member of the American 
Association of University Women. While living in Ely, she taught English 
in Babbitt from 1961 to 1974. They moved to Eveleth in 1973 and she was 
a member of the Retired Citizens of Eveleth. 
She is survived by daughters, Mary Carolyn (Kenneth) Farrell of Panama 
City, Fla., Catherine (Patrick) O’Brien of St. Paul, Barbara (Fredic) 
Johnson of Ely and Christine Moroni of Ely; son, Peter Gregory (Marsha) 
of New Jersey; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter, in 1976; 
brothers, Anthony, Frank and Joe Strlekar; and sisters, Mary Culbertson, 
Anne Paciotti and Josephine Szymczak. 
Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday at Resurrection Catholic Church 
in Eveleth. Interment will be in Eveleth Cemetery.
