Leora H. Mealey, 64, of Babbitt, dies



Leora H. Mealey, 64, of Babbitt, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in Oakes, 

N.D., where she was staying with her daughter. 



She was born Nov. 16, 1939, in Virginia, to Leo and Fern (Doan) Ducharme. 

She grew up in Babbitt, graduating from Ely Memorial High School in 1957 

and attended Virginia Junior College, graduating in 1959. Leora attended 

Eveleth Technical College, where she studied Optical Technology. She 

married John Mealey on Sept. 26, 1959, at St. Pius Catholic Church in 

Babbitt. Leora drove a school bus for many years and later was employed 

by the U.S. Forest Service in Ely. She was a member of St. Pius X 

Catholic Church in Babbitt. She played the clarinet in the Babbitt 

Community Band. Leora had a tremendous sense of humor and a respect for 

the sanctity of human life. She will be missed by her family and her many 

friends. 



Surviving are her three daughters, LeeAnn (David) Evan of Cogswell, N.D., 

Theresa (Michael) Barner of Mesa, Ariz., and Debrah (Bradley) Hall of 

Green Bay, Wis.; grandchildren, Cecilia Hankel, Azure and Taylor Hall, 

Parker Hall, Michael and Michelle Barner, and Ashley and David Even; 

great-grandchild, Aden Barner; sister, Mary Blanden of St. Petersburg, 

Fla. 



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, who died 

March 6, 1996. 



A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church 

in Babbitt. The Rev. James Scheuer officiated. Arrangements are by Kerntz
