Eino O. Maki, 78, longtime resident of Virginia, died Sunday, March 7, 
2004, at his home. 
He was born Feb. 21, 1926, in Babbitt, the son of Wilho and Aili 
(Erkkila) Maki. Eino grew up in the Babbitt area, attended the Babbitt
school, and was a United States Navy veteran. He married Joan Pucel on 
Nov. 15, 1947, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Ely. He was a 
mechanic at the Ford Garage in Virginia for 10 years and worked for 
32 years as an automotive shop foreman at Erie Mining until his 
retirement in 1988. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church 
in Virginia. Eino enjoyed working on his many projects and was an 
avid socializer. He loved to fish and spend time at his cabin on 
Lake Vermilion. Eino’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. 
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joan; his children, 
Curtis Maki of Virginia, Mark and Linda Maki of Lighthouse Point, 
Fla., Paul and Barb Maki of East Gull Lake, Minn., and Connie 
(Maki) Sprunk of Enderlin, N.D.; five grandchildren, Brian Maki, 
Maiah and Mikaela Maki, and Austin and Zachary Sprunk; a brother,
Donald (Carole) Maki of Babbitt; and a sister, Viola (Gene) 
Fleming of Crosby, Texas. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Wilho.
