Dennis "Tiny' Lakanen, 63, dies



  Dennis "Tiny' Lakanen, 63, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at St. Raphael's 

Health & Rehabilitation Center in Eveleth. 

  He was born Sept. 6, 1943, to Taito and Hazel (Kippola) Lakanen in 

Detroit, MI. He grew up and attended school in Embarrass. Tiny worked as a 

mason and cement finisher in the construction industry. He was a member of 

Pike Evangelical Church, now Hope Lutheran Church in Embarrass; Cement 

Mason's Union Local 633 of Virginia; the Kline-Cuppoletti Gun Club; and 

several bowling leagues at the Plaza Bowl. He enjoyed fishing with friends 

and playing bingo. Tiny also volunteered at St. Raphael's, calling bingo 

and singing. 

  Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing his life are his: mother, 

Hazel Lakanen, of Embarrass; sister, JoAnn (Kenneth) Koski, of Tower; 

brother, Andrew (Crystal) Lakanen, of Embarrass; nieces and nephews; 

uncle, Charles Hendricks, of Embarrass; and numerous other relatives and 

friends who mourn his death. 

  He was preceded in death by his father; and brother, Daniel. 

  Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24 at Range 

Funeral Home in Virginia. Following the service, Tiny's family invites 

everyone to join them at the Elks Club for a time of lunch and fellowship. 

Inurnment will be at the East Pike Cemetery in the spring.
