Aune Miriam Laine, 82, of Babbitt died Thursday, March 25, 2004, in 
Ely-Bloomenson Hospital. 
She was born Feb. 25, 1922, in Ironwood, MI, to Gabriel and Fannie 
(Hill) Walkonen. She attended school and worked at Hautala’s grocery 
store. She married Harold Laine in Ironwood and lived there, and in 
Embarrass prior to moving to Babbitt in 1969. She was a homemaker, 
a loving wife and mother, and a member of the Evangelical Lutheran 
Church in Embarrass. 
She was a sweet lady loved by all who knew her. 
She is survived by two daughters, Diana (Cecil) Reiners of Burnsville, 
Minn., and Carol (Dave) Soular of Babbitt; six grandchildren, Von, 
Jeremy and Miranda Laine, Darren Soular and Travis and Andrea Reiners; 
sisters-in-law, Mae Alaspa of Hoyt Lakes and Saima Walkonen of Ironwood, 
MI.; an aunt, Elsie Jarvela; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host 
of friends. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold, in 
2003; a son, Glenn, in 1992; a grandson, Jason Soular, in 2002; a 
brother, “Whitey’’ Walkonen, in 2000; and a brother-in-law, Clifford 
Alaspa, in 1999.

Services were held Sunday at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Babbitt, 
with the Rev. Charles Barnes officiating. Visitation one hour prior to 
service. Burial followed in the Argo Cemetery. Services provided by 
Kerntz Brothers, a Bauman Family Funeral Home, in Ely.
