Arvid J. Koski, 91, of Aurora dies



  Arvid J. Koski, 91, of Aurora died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, in the 

Skilled Nursing Facility of White Community Hospital in Aurora. 

  He was born Jan. 25, 1914, in Atlantic Mine, MI to William and Ida 

(Pieti) Koski. 

  He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II from 1942-1945 

and was trained in mechanics. He married Helmi Peramaki in Detroit, MI 

in Nov. of 1946. 

  From 1953 to 1971 he sold and repaired used cars at his home in Palo. 

He owned and operated the Biwabik Rest Home from 1971 until 1975 when 

he retired. 

  He was an active layman at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and currently 

attended First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Virginia. He married Verna 

Ruona on Sept. 10, 1999 and resided at Irongate Apartments in Aurora. 

  He is survived by his wife, Verna; five daughters, Mary Mulari of 

Aurora, Ruth Koski (Robert Benito) of Ely, Rebecca Koski Siiteri (Jes) 

of Arden Hills, Sarah Koski (Roger VanCleave) of Aurora and Rachel Koski 

of Gold Beach, OR; one son, David (Mary) Koski of Duluth; one brother, 

Albert (Aileen) Koski of Keweenaw Bay, MI; three grandchildren, Sarah 

Koski Overland, John Koski and Matthias Siiteri; four great-grandchildren; 

and numerous nieces and nephews. 

  He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; one sister; 

and his first wife, Helmi. 

  Funeral services were held on Monday, March 21 at St. Mark’s Lutheran 

Church in Palo. The Rev. Melvin Johnson and the Rev. Brian Birk officiated. 

Burial with military honors accorded by the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Color

Guard will be in Rauha Cemetery in White Township.
