Robert Irwin, 76, of Virginia, formerly of Babbitt, dies



Robert Irwin, 76, of Virginia, formerly of Babbitt, died Monday, Feb. 27, 

2006, at the Virginia Convalescent Center. 

  He was born Jan. 23, 1930, to James and Mary (Carpon) Irwin in Virginia, 

where he grew up and attended high school. He was united in marriage to 

Louise Mary DeYoung on Sept. 2, 1950, in Virginia. They resided in 

Hibbing, Minneapolis and Babbitt until returning to Virginia, where they 

currently resided. Robert was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. 

Army. He was employed by Unisys Corp. in Minneapolis for 23 years until 

his retirement. 

  Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Louise Mary of Virginia; three 

sons, Russell (Leslie) Irwin of State Line, Nev., Roger (Linda) Irwin of 

Virginia and Dale (Linda) Irwin of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren, 

Danielle, Roger Jr., Troy, Ashlee, Haylee, Jake and Tanya; and a great-

granddaughter, Ruby Kay. 

  He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kay Marie Schaefer; 

brother, Bruno Ballintini; and sister, Germaine Greenwald. Mass of 

Christian Burial was held Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in 

Mountain Iron. Spring burial in Argo Cemetery in Babbitt.
