Louis F. Glavan Sr., 79, of Soudan, died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at his 
home surrounded by all of his family. 

Louis was born July 8, 1924, in Aurora, to Louis and Antonia 
Glavan. He moved to Ely and married Mary Ann "Dolly" Melovasich 
on April 10, 1948. He was a miner at U.S. Steel, Minntac Pioneer 
Mine and moved to Soudan upon retiring in 1975. 
He was a Navy veteran, having served in World War II. Louis was a
member of the St. Martin's Catholic Church and the Ely VFW Post 2717. 
Louis is survived by his children, Kathy (Jeff) Johnson of Soudan, 
Jean (Larry) Buffetta of Mountain Iron, Mary Jo (Craig) Salo of 
Mountain Iron, Pamela (Jayson) Carlson of Tower, and Louis F. 
Glavan Jr. of Soudan; sisters, Alice Baxter of Las Vegas, NV and 
Mary Jo Reiff of Milwaukee, WI; sister-in-law, Mary Melovasich; 
seven grandchildren, Shara (Les) Hujanen, Carrie Jo Halik, Willie 
Buffetta, Josh and Lee Carlson, and Michael and Jamie Glavan; and 
one great-grandson, Riley Irish. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dolly, on Sept. 
5, 2001; a sister, Olga Gorchar; and a son-in-law, Michael P. Converse. 

A Memorial Mass was held Wednesday at St. Martin's Catholic Church 
in Tower. The Rev. Father Rudolph Pakiz officiated. A spring burial
will take place at the Lakeview Cemetery. Family services are provided 
by the Vermilion Funeral Home, A Bauman Family of Funeral Homes, Tower.
