Theodore "Ted" L. Fleck, Sr., age 83, of Ashland, WI, formerly of Babbitt, 

passed away Monday, Sept. 13 at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland.



Ted was born April 9, 1921 in Pentoga, Michigan, the son of Leander H. 

Fleck and Edna L. Ottman. He grew up in the Beloit, WI area and graduated 

from Ashland High School. In 1943, he was inducted into the United States 

Navy and served aboard the USS Bunker Hill, being discharged in 1945. On 

Nov. 7, 1953, he was united in marriage to Theresa R. Brown at Washburn, 

Wis. Along with his brother Bill, he owned and operated Commercial 

Electric Motor Repair in Ashland. He moved to Babbitt in 1969 to work at 

Reserve Mining Co., retiring in 1986.



Survivors include his children, Janet (Sherman) Tompkin of Florida, Joanne 

(Duane) DeHate of Ashland, James Moe of Shakopee, MN, Patricia (Duncan) 

Anderson of Savannah, GA, Theodore, Jr. "Skip" Fleck of Fort Walton Beach, 

FL, and Toni Fleck of Mountain Iron; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-

grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Schneider 

of West Allis, WI; brother, Bill (Kitty) Fleck of Marengo Lake, WI; nieces 

and nephews; and very special friends, Al and Karen Maddern of Babbitt.



He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Tess on April 4, 2001; son, 

Tim Fleck; daughter, Lori Poole; brother, Neil Fleck; and sister, Gladys 

Wachter.



A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22 at Kerntz 

Brothers Funeral Chapel in Ely with the Rev. Charles Barnes officiating. 

Inurnment will take place in Argo Cemetery, Babbitt. Visitation will begin 

at 10 a.m. at the funeral home and will continue until the hour of 

service. Family services are provided by Kerntz Brothers, a Bauman Family 

Funeral Home in Ely.
