Marvin Erickson, 82, died March 31 in N. Fort Myers, FL. Marvin “Moose” 
Erickson was born on March 24, 1922, in Oviken, Sweden. He immigrated to 
Duluth, MN at the age of two. He lived in Chicago Heights, IL for many 
years. He was an Eagle Scout, graduated at Central H.S. Duluth, served 
honorably in the US Navy in WWII, graduated from Drake University Iowa in 
1949 and worked the majority of his career at US Steel. He was an active 
member of Kiwanis, Masonic Lodge, and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. He 
enjoyed fishing, golfing, traveling, and playing cards - specifically 
Bridge.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 yrs. Shirley (nee Bodin); sons 
Thomas (Laura) of Homewood, IL; Robert (Janice) of Ely; Donald “DJ” (Kim) of 
Kent City, MI; daughter Gail “Sue” Chernak (Bruce “Charlie” of Ely; brother 
Arne (Shirley) Erickson of Duluth; brother-in-law Donald (Lois) Bodin of No. 
Ft. Myers; grandchildren Sara, Jon, Grace, Lars, Kaytie, Kara; many nieces 
and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 12 at 2:00 
p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Ely.
