Denzel, 62, dies Barbara J. Denzel, 62, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at her home in Iron. She was born on Sept. 24, 1942, to John and June (Pratt) Nykanen in Ely. She moved to the Iron Range where she later met and married William "Bill'' Denzel. Into their marriage they brought six children. Barbara cherished her family, friends and pets. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Barbara enjoyed and took pride in being a homemaker and providing for all those she loved. Her hobbies included stock car racing with her family, crafts, painting, gardening, flowers, sewing and her ATV trips. Barbara also had a love for wildlife and birds. She will be best remembered for her infectious smile and laughter. She is survived by her husband, William "Bill''; six children, Sandi (Robin) Schoenrock of Moose Lake, Frank Kalata of Iron, Brenda (fiance Howard Ebert) Burle of Meadowlands, Shane Qualley of Hibbing, Sherri Qualley of Superior, WI, and Dusty (Bonnie) Denzel of Iron; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Penny (Joe) Miller in MT; special friends, John Newman and Marie Kreegier; and her beloved pet, C.P. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Wendy Nykanen; and pet dog, Bullet. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Ely Cemetery.
