Andrew Chesler, 97, a longtime resident of Eveleth, died Wednesday, 
June 16, 2004, at the Autumn Adult Foster Care Home in Angora.

He was born Sept. 16, 1906, in Visau, Poland, the son of George and 
Mary (Belan) Cieslar. Andrew married Leona M. Croteau on Oct. 10, 1925, 
in Eveleth. He worked as a brakeman for U.S. Steel’s Oliver Mining Co. 
and was a member of the Steelworkers Union. Andrew was a hardworking 
man who cherished the time spent with his family. He enjoyed playing 
the concertina, and loved having his grandkids crawl up on his lap and 
sing to them in Polish.

He is survived by his children, Lee (Joyce) Chesler of Andover, Minn., 
David (Shirley) Chesler of Mora, Arlene (Jerome) Gwash of Virginia 
and Elaine (John) Postudensek of Babbitt; 21 grandchildren; 47 great-
grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other 
relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 77 years, Leona, 
on May 26, 2003, son, James, and a baby in infancy, Edmund; two 
grandsons, two great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul and Albert; 
and sisters, Mary, Anna, Emma and Harriet.

Services were held Monday at the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home Chapel in 
Virginia, with the Rev. Frank Perkovich officiating. Memorials are 
preferred.
