Laverne Katheryn Chelesnik, 84, of Ely, dies

Laverne Katheryn Chelesnik, 84, of Ely, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at 
the Ely Bloomenson Nursing Home.

She was born Jan. 23, 1920, in Ely, to Steven and Jennie (Antella) 
Moravitz. Laverne was a lifelong resident of Ely. She graduated from Ely 
Memorial High School in the class of 1938. Laverne married John Chelesnik 
on July 14, 1938, at St. Anthony's Church in Ely. She enjoyed spending 
time on the lake and outdoors in Ely. Laverne was a homemaker, wife, 
mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her two sons, David (Laura), and John (Sandra), both 
of Ely; four grandchildren, Steven (Tamara) of Eden Prairie, Heather 
(Brad) Hren of Hermantown, Heidi (Sergio) Altimirano of Minneapolis, and 
Holly (Tim) Augustin of Blane; six great-grandchildren, Alexandra of Eden 
Prairie, Chase, Kiana and Kylee Hren of Hermantown, Sergio Altimirano of 
Minneapolis, and Sidney Augustin of Blane; two brothers, James (Violet) 
Moravitz of Ely and Gene (Sue) Morrow of Orinda, CA; sister, Nan Kantola 
of Conneaut, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Alice Moravitz and Lillian Sayovitz; 
and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, in 1981; her 
grandson, David Jr., in 1984; and three brothers, Lawrance, Bernard, and 
Robert Moravitz.

Private family services will be held in the spring. Family services are
