D. Michael "Whitey" Carlson, 55, of Ely dies





D. Michael "Whitey" Carlson, 55, of Ely passed away on Sunday, March 25, 

2007 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.  



He was born on June 11, 1951 in Chicago, IL. Whitey was a lifelong Ely 

resident. He was a leather craftsman and owned Carlson Leather. He was 

also an avid outdoorsman.  



Whitey is survived by his mother, Jeanne Cecka; sister, Carol (Tom) 

Holewa; two nieces, Lisa (Troy) Foster and Allison Holewa; nephew, 

Jonathan Holewa; two great-nieces, Hannah and Marli Foster; aunts and 

uncles, Glenn (Ann) Nelson and Lois Klaus and many cousins and numerous 

close freinds. 



Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 3 p.m. at 

Kerntz Brothers Funeral Chapel in Ely. Visitation will be one hour prior 

to the service. Pastor Bill Fossum will officiate. Burial will be at the 

Ely Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are preferred.
