Mary A.Bird, 82, of Ely, dies



  Mary A.Bird, 82, of Ely, died Sun., March 6, 2005, at the Virginia 

Regional Medical Center. 

  She was born Dec. 3, 1922, in Ely to Joseph and Mary (Leustek)

Prijatel and had been a lifelong Ely resident. 

  She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the VFW Auxiliary, 

Senior Citizens Club and the Slovenian Women, all of Ely. 

  Mary was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, cooking and baking, 

especially Christmas cookies and potica. Her joy was having coffee daily 

with her sister, Rose. 

  Survivors include two sons, Richard E. (Mary) Bird of Cambridge, and 

Donald L. (Cynthia) Bird of Virginia; five grandchildren, Patricia (Jon) 

Olness, Richard L. (Sandi) Bird, Justina Bird, Cory (Katrina) Bird and 

Melanie (Richard) Stickney; six great-grandchildren, Alexys, Anthony, 

Jamie, Jessica, Andrew and Joshua; two brothers, Joseph (Evelyn) Prijatel 

and Stanley (Ann) Prijatel, both of Ely; one sister, Rose (Peter) Jiacik 

of Ely; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl C. Bird, in 1990; 

and two brothers, Peter and Robert Prijatel. 

  Memorial Mass was held on Thurs., March 10 at St. Anthony’s Catholic 

Church in Ely with the Rev. James Scheuer as celebrant. Spring burial 

will be in the Ely Cemetery.
