Minneapolis, is specializing in surgical work. He was born in Beardsley,
Minnesota, February 14, 1887, and his parents were George C. and Frances
(Kelsey) Cranmer, the former a native of Barnegat, New Jersey, and the latter of
Anoka, Minnesota. About 1880 the father came to this state, settling at
Beardsley, where he engaged in the drug business. His demise occurred in 1893.
In 1905 Richard Raymond Cranmer completed his course in the high school at
Ortonville, Minnesota, and he then spent two years as a student at Hamline
College, after which he entered Jefferson Medical College at Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, from which he was graduated in 1909. The following year was spent
as an interne at St. Mary's Hospital of Minneapolis and he then opened an office
in this city. In 1913 he went abroad for further study and was in Vienna,
Austria, at the time of the outbreak of the World war. Returning to his native
land, he continued his professional activities in Minneapolis until 1917, when
he enlisted for service, and was on the surgical staff of Camp Hospital, No. 15,
of the American Expeditionary Forces, being stationed near Paris, France. He was
commissioned a captain and remained overseas for two years, being decorated by
the French government with the order of the Universal Palms, while he was also
named an officer of the Academy and was awarded a medal. In the summer of 1919
Dr. Cranmer returned to Minneapolis, where he has since successfully followed
his profession, concentrating his attention upon surgical work. He conducts the
Camden Park Hospital, a private institution for the treatment of surgical cases,
and is local surgeon for the Northern Pacific Railroad Company. He is also a
member of the surgical staffs of the Minneapolis General Hospital, Hopewell
Tubercular Hospital and St. Barnabas Hospital and was connected with the staff
of Asbury Hospital until it was turned over to the government.
On the 20th of December, 1921, Dr. Cranmer was united in marriage to Miss
Mildred Wheeler of Fargo, North Dakota, and they reside at No. 4263 Weber
Parkway. He is a Mason and an Odd Fellow. In Masonry the Doctor has attained the
thirty-second degree in the consistory and he is a Noble of Zuhrah Temple of the
Mystic Shrine. Through his identification with the Hennepin County and Minnesota
