ANDREW E. CARLSEN - Vol II, pg 518-521
Andrew E. Carlsen was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, January 29, 1896, and is a
son of Andrew M. and Emma C. (Bard) Carlsen, the former a native of Norway and
the latter of Sweden. In their youth they came to the United States and in
Minnesota their marriage occurred. In order to obtain an education the father
was obliged to attend night classes, as he was engaged during the day in earning
the funds necessary for his tuition. For a number of years he has followed his
profession in St. Paul, specializing in patent law, and is numbered among the
leading attorneys of the city.
In the public schools of his native city Andrew E. Carlsen obtained his early
education and afterward entered and graduated from the Northwestern College of
Law in Minneapolis, being admitted to the bar in Minnesota, in 1922. He had been
admitted to the practice of patent law, however, in 1917, having gained a
comprehensive knowledge "of this branch of jurisprudence under the able
instruction of his father, in whose office he had spent much of his time from
boyhood. He is therefore well qualified to conduct his legal interests and has
already built up a good clientele, being recognized as one of the successful
patent and trade-mark attorneys in the city, with offices at No. 206 Plymouth
building.
Mr. Carlsen enlisted for service in the World war, on the 11th of April, 1918,
joining the Eight Hundred and Eighty-second Aero Squadron, and was transferred
to various points, spending the greater part of his time at Kelly Field at San
Antonio, Texas, and at the aviation depot at Montgomery, Alabama. He was a
non-commissioned officer and served until January 31, 1919, being discharged at
Montgomery. He reached hcme February 6, 1919, and on the following day opened
his present offices in the Plymouth building, where he has since concentrated
his attention upon patent and trade-mark law.
On the 19th of June, 1920, Mr. Carlsen married Miss Neva E. Johnson of St. Paul,
and they have a son, Douglass, who was born May 15, 1921. Mr. Carlsen is an
energetic and progressive representative of his profession and a worthy exemplar
of the Masonic fraternity.
