Vice Admiral (Ret) Thomas Selby Combs 66, vice chairman and executive director of the Florida Judicial Council, died Wednesday afternoon of a heart attack. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Lee Graham officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be announced. Vice Adm. Combs was a naval aviator who commanded naval air operations in the southwest Pacific during WWIII. He retired in 1960 after serving as a commander of the aircraft carrier Yorktown and commander of the Second and Sixth Fleers in the Eastern Sea Frontier. Since retiring, he directed the study of Florida’s judicial system. He entered the U.S.Navy in 1916. He lived at 303 Desoto Drive in Tallahassee. He as native of Lamar, Mo. and had lived in Tallahassee for four years. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, the Florida Engineer society, Tallahassee Exchange Club, Tallahassee, and Seminole Boosters. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Agnes Williamson Combs of Tallahassee; two brothers, J. Carrol and Clyde E. of Lamar, Mo. The J. A. Cully and Sons funeral Home is in charge. The family requests that those who wish, make contributions to the Heart Fund. Pallbearers will be Joe Edwards, W. Douglas Henderson, Jon Beasley, E. W. Richardson Sr., Frank S. Shaw Sr., Wilbur Jones and Wade Hopping. Honorary pallbearers will be Justice Elwyn Thomas, Justice B. K. Roberts, Justice Campbell Thornal, R. A. Gray, Dr. Grover Rogers, Capt. David Harris, W. A. Bass, W. Theo Proctor, Charles s. Ausley, George L. Henderson, Frank D. Moor, Dr. L. L. Dozier Sr., Dr. Gerald Bryant, Dempsey Mayo, Ernest Stidolph, Jack W. Simmons Sr., Dr. George Palmer, Leo Foster and members of the Tallahassee Exchange Club.
