BIOGRAPHICAL REVIEW, Vol. XXXII, Containing Life Sketches of Leading Citizens of
Bedford and Somerset Counties, Pennsylvania. Boston, Biographical Review
Publishing Company: 1899, pp 182-183.

Bernard Miller, who owns a large farm in Summit, Pa., was born in this town,
December 10, 1826, son of Abram and Magdalene (Long) Miller. The father was
born in Meyersdale in 1789, son of Henry Miller; and the mother was a daughter
of Nicholas Long. Both grandfathers were Revolutionary soldiers.
Henry Miller went from Eastern Pennsylvania to Meyersdale about the year 1786,
when there were but two houses in the town; and he later bought the farm which
is now owned by Jacob Lichty. The maiden name of his wife was Rachel Flory, and
his children were: Henry, who settled in Ohio; Abram; Daniel; William; Samuel;
John; and Catherine, none of whom are living.
Abram Miller, the father above mentioned, purchased the farm where his son now
resides in 1819, and was a prosperous farmer and stock-dealer during his active
period. He served as a Justice of the Peace; and as executor, administrator,
and trustee, he had charge of the settlement of many estates. He was a member
of the German Baptist church. Abram Miller died in 1880. Magdalene Long
Miller, his wife was the mother of twelve children, two of whom are living,
namely: Bernard, the subject of this sketch; and Josiah, a prosperous farmer,
stock-dealer, and merchant in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
Bernard Miller attended what was known in his boyhood as the subscription
school. He has always resided on the farm he now cultivates, which contains
three hundred and seventy acres; and he also owns an adjoining farm of one
hundred and eighty acres. For many years he has made a specialty of dealing in
cattle and sheep, and is one of the most extensive drovers in Somerset County.
His ability and integrity are highly spoken of by his fellow-townsmen; and, like
his father, he has been intrusted [sic] with the settlement of many estates. He
has served as School Director and upon the Election Board. In politics he acts
with the Democratic party. Mr. Miller is unmarried.
