In the name of God Amen. I John Carver of Stonycreek Township, Somerset County
and State Peennsylvania, farmer, being sick and weak in body, but of sound mind,
memory and understanding (praised be God for it) considering the certainty of
death and the uncertainty
of the time thereof, and to the end that I may be the better prepared to leave
this world whenever it shall please God to call me hence, do therefore make and
declare this my last will and testament in the manner following. My desire is
to be buried with as little expense as decency will permit and that all my just
debts and funeral expenses and the proving this my last will be paid as soon
after my decease as conveniently may be. I give and bequeath all my personal
property of whatsoever kind or nature I now have or hereafter may be possessed
of to my beloved wife Adaline during her life time and after her death to my
sons and daughters to be divided equally among them viz. Anthony, Abraham,
Henry, Mary intermarried with J. J. Speicher, Caroline intermarried with Moses
Yoder, Sarah intermarried with John J. Fritz, Susan intermarried with Jacob Y.
Miller each to receive share and share alike. I give and bequeath all my real
estate excepting the north west end of my homestead which I have sold to Lucy
Carver containing about 8 acres more or less unto my dear wife Adaline for and
during her natural life and after her death the same to be sold by my executors
hereinafter mentioned and after paying all expenses the proceeds of said sale to
be equally divided among the above mentioned sons and daughters. If the rent or
income of my real and personal property is not sufficient to support and
maintain my dear wife then she can dispose of so much of the personal property
until she has enough to live comfortably during her widowhood. And I do hereby
nominate, constitute and appoint Abraham Carver and Jacob J. Speicher of
Sonycreek Township, Somerset County, Pa. sole executors of this my last will
hereby revoking all former wills by me at anytime heretofore made. And further
I hereby empower my said executors to sell real estate and make title deeds for
the same, the same as I could during my life time. In witness whereof I the
said testator have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seal this
14th day of December 1877.
