                              Thine unremembered lay,
                          And thy sleeping silence break

POLICE AFFAIRS. -- Three medical students, named Hayede E. McKay,
James R. Ellis and John J. Terres, were arraigned before Mayor
Gilpin, yesterday morning, upon the charge of riot, and an aggra-
vated assault and battery on Francis X. Kelley. From the testimo-
ny, it appeared that the defendants called at the complainant's
store, West Market street, and inquired the price of a trunk. They
were answered $4.50, when one of the party alleged he could pur-
chase the same for $2.25. Mr. Kelley expressed some doubts as to
the correctness of the statement, and after some conversation, they
left. In about half an hour they returned, an Mr. Kelley was
called to the door, when, it is alleged, they knocked him down, and
beat him in a shocking manner, with a cane and their fists.

IMPOSITION. -- Many ladies of Spring Garden, have recently had
their sympathies most cruelly taxed by a German woman, who usually
makes her appearance just at twilight, with a very pitiful story,
that the day before, when returning from her sister's funeral, she
had her money stolen from her in the Columbia cars; that such is
her own situation and that of her husband and family, she is
obliged to reach Newark, N.J., that very night; that she only wants
money to pay her passage, &c. As she has been telling the same
story for at least a month past, and her imposition is now fully
discovered, it is but proper to put others on their guard. No tax
is so unjust and unwarrantable as that which is levied on our
        sympathies without cause.

        deservedly to be wished for.

FRANKFORD AFFAIRS. -- Hydrophobia. - Within the last few days our
Borough has been in a state of excitement, from the large number of
mad dogs which have been prowling around, biting every thing that
happened to come in their way. Several children were reported to
have been bitten, but on inquiry it turned out to be erroneous,
except in one instance where a little girl, in Adams street, had
one of her fingers very nearly bitten off, but whether the dog was
rabid we are unable to say. The High Constable has been diligently
employed in killing those dogs which have been bitten.

BURGLARY. -- On Friday night the Coal office of A.G. Rorland &

ham, and several articles of kitchen furniture were found in the
office, which the thieves had left behind. They had bee previously
stolen from the kitchen of Mr. John Brigs, which is situated a
short distance from the coal office.
