EXHUMING BODIES

There are about 250 bodies buried in the old graveyard surrounding the
beautiful St. Aloysius Catholic Church, North Hanover St. and nearly all of
these are to be disinterred, and the yard used as a garden for the parsonage.
The bodies will be re-interred in the Catholic Cemetery on East High St.
Tuesday the Sexton, Edward Brensinger removed 4 bodies to the new cemetery.
They were those of Thomas Gribbon buried 17 years ago; Charles Schaeffer buried
24 years ago; Mrs. Catharine Dunn, and a 2 year old grandchild, both buried 33
years. nothing but the skeletons of the bodies remains and the coffins in
which the bodies were laid to rest, are in a decayed state. The sexton put the
exhumed remains into newly made boxes and hauled them to the place of re-
interment. The first person buried here was the father of our townsman, Frank
Zigler, who was interred about 38 years ago. The place was used by the
Catholics of this vicinity as their burying grounds until the purchase of the
High St. Cemetery about 16 years ago.
