Samuel McClelland - Succumbing to an attack of illness which seized him four
days ago, Samuel H. McClelland, 72, a well known resident of Sharon for the past
 12 years, and a veteran of the Civil war, died at the family home Friday
morning at six o'clock. Death was due to pneumonia. Announcement of the sudden
passing away of the old soldier will be a source of deep regret to his many
friends. Mr. McClelland had been the popular janitor at the post office and was
respected by the entire community. The aged resident was a native of
Pennsylvania having been born in this state February 20, 1841. When the war
between the North and South broke out he enlisted with the northern forces, He
was senior vice commander of the Transfer Post G. A. R. and was a member of the
First Baptist church. Left to survive are his wife, one son, Mitchel of
Meadville, three sisters: Mrs. LeRoy Chatterdon and Miss Martha McClelland, of
Transfer, Mrs. Clara R. Gillespie, of Meadville, and one brother who resides in
Transfer. Funeral services at the residence Saturday evening. Sunday afternoon
the remains will be taken to Transfer where the interment will be made.
