    Mrs. H.L. Burlingame, one of this section's most dearly loved ladies, 
  celebrated her 82nd birthday last Sunday, March 29.
    In honor of this unusual event, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren 
  and other near relatives to the number of 15, assembled at the hospitable home 
  of Comrade and Mrs. Burlingame at Kasson, near Smethport.  The affair was in 
  the nature of a complete and happy surprise to the recipient and the day was 
  delightfully spent.  Mrs. Burlingame received a basket of beautiful flowers 
  and numerous other gifts to mark her 82nd natal day, which found her enjoying 
  the best of health.
    At 2:30 o'clock the family assembled around the festive board which 
  literally groaned under the assortment of viands of the delicious birthday 
  dinner.
    Mrs. Burlingame was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Stark, sturdy pioneers 
  of this section.  She was married August 18, 1862 to H.L. Burlingame, a 
  gallant soldier of the Civil War.  Mr. Burlingame, who is enjoying splendid 
  health, will observe his 83rd birthday next June.
    The two surviving children of this revered couple, C.H. Burlingame of 
  Smethport and Miss Lydia Burlingame of home were present together with the 
  following grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other near relatives: Mr. and 
  Mrs. Fred Burlingame and son: Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Burlingame and daughter: Mrs. 
  Anna Stark, Roy Stark and Doris Stark, Mrs. Winfield Stark; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. 
  Milroy and Mrs. Belle Wilson, all of Smethport.

    Mrs. Charlotte Hamlin, one of Smethport' most revered ladies, celebrated her 
  87th birthday anniversary Tuesday.
    Between the hours of 4:00 and 6:00 p.m., many relatives of this prominent 
  lady called at the Hamlin residence on West Main street and wished her many 
  happy returns on this auspicious event.
    Mrs. Hamlin, who suffered a severe attack of illness during the past winter, 
  has now recovered in a gratifying manner and her 87th birthday found this 
  beloved resident enjoying good health.
    The Democrat unites with the people of Smethport in the hope that Mrs. 
  Hamlin may be spared for many more years of usefulness.

    Mrs. Julia McKean, well known and beloved by many friends in Smethport and 
  vicinity, passed the eighty-fourth milestone along the journey of life, on 
  Saturday, Nov. 7th.  Although for a long time a wheel chair has been her only 
  means of getting about, she sits like a queen on her throne, her radiant 
  smile, unfailing cheerfulness, and love for all humanity drawing all hearts to 
  her.  Her hands are always busy knitting or other little labors of love for 
  those around her.  The Democrat offers felicitations to Mrs. McKean on this 
  occasion.
