  One Hundred Years Old.
Scipio Young one of Kane's oldest residents, had the pleasure Monday of
  celebrating his 100th birthday anniversary.
During his childhood, Mr. Young was a native of the South. When the Civil
War was declared he ran away and joined the northern troops, after which he
became a body servant of General Thomas L. Kane.
In 1863 he came here with General Kane and in 1865 he moved his family to
Kane from Essex county, Virginia, and since then has resided in this city a
  period of 56 years.
During this time Mr. Young was employed by the P.R.R. as a wood cutter for
the engines; later he worked for Griffith's mill, hauling and cutting timber.
His last work was conducting a barber shop after which he retired in 1893.
Mr. Young is the father of nine children, three of them having died, leaving
six children to rejoice at their father's anniversary, as follows: Mrs. Van
and Maggie Edward, Henry and Grant of this city and Tom Young of Smethport.
Mr. Young is reported as being in the best of health, although not able to
be around. Besides being able to see and hear very well, his memory is very
  remarkable.
Mr. Young is extended the most hearty congratulations by his many friends
and it is hoped that he will see many more anniversaries roll around. Kane
  Republican.

Last week the types made the press say Mr. and Mrs. Leo McAlee were parents
