ALEXANDRIA

Rev. D. N. Harnish and daughter of San Gabriel, Cal., have been guests of R.
S. Harnish, a brother of Rev. D. N. Harnish for the past two weeks
About fifty of our music lovers attended the opera Thursday afternoon to hear
the famous Sousas band, at Huntingdon.
Mr. Corbin and family made a trip overland to Altoona Thursday.
Rev. R. A. Ray returned Monday evening from Bedford where he preached a war
sermon to a very large and enthusiastic congregation in the Presbyterian church.
Should the weather prove pleasant a very large crowd is expected at the P. S.
O. of A. picnic in Piper's woods on Saturday.
The thermometer stood at 102 for six hours on Tuesday, at Shelton Inn, while
the highest mark was reported by Mr. G. A. Frimmer, whose thermometer on his
back porch registered 104. On Wednesday there thermometer showed only one
degree cooler.

SERVICE FLAG DEDICATION

The unfurling and dedication of a community Service Flag will be held Saturday
August 10, at Alexandria. A good program has been prepared and every body is
invited to take part in a parade led by Alexandria's well known band. Patriotic
orders, Red Cross, boy scouts, Girl scouts and Sunday schools will all join in
the demonstration for the boys "over there". Patriotic songs led by I. G.
Owens, of Water street and good addresses by prominent speakers will follow
after the parade at the Library Memorial hall.

Annual Picnic Today

The P. S. O. of A. will hold their annual picnic in Piper's woods on Saturday
August 10th. All members are requested to come and bring their families and
friends. The crowd will be augmented by many members and other persons coming
from near by camps.
At 5 p.m. all members of the order that are present as well as visiting P. S.
O. of A. men will come into town and prepare to take part in the dedication of
the County service flag celebration. The parade will start at 6 o'clock.

"The Chimney Corner."
A very pleasant evening was spent at "The Chimney Corner," the home of S. R.
and Emma S. Harnish, Monday. The guests consisted of cousins and other kith and
kin to the number of fifty, and some had not seen each other for years. Even
the excessive heat of the evening did not mar the pleasure of the occasion.
Cooling refreshments were served on the porch and lawn, and many a patriotic air
was enthusiastically sung by a chorus of excellent voices.
Among the out of town guests were Mrs. Mabel Hatfield Brumbaugh, Baltimore,
Md.; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Levan, New York city; Rev. and Mrs. E. L. McLean,
Philadelphia; Charles Keller, jr., Pittsburg; Samuel Hatfield, wife and sister,
lately returned from St. Petersburg, Fla., to their home in Mapleton; R. D.
Hatfield, Huntingdon; Joseph, Potter township; Rev. D. N. Harnish, wife and
daughter, San Gabriel, Cal.
