Newly-elected officers of the Connellsville Chapter of Gold Star Mothers were
installed on Tuesday night with ceremonies in the American Legion Home, North
Pittsburg St.
The officers pictured above are: Seated (left to right), Mrs. Harry Hall, second
vice president; Mrs. Sally Richter, retiring president and new corresponding
secretary; Mrs. Edward DuShaw, new president; Mrs. Madelyn Reed, hospital
chairman and color bearer, and Mrs. Rose Kelly, historian.
Standing (left to right) are: Mrs. L. M. Walters, past president; Mrs. Mary K.
Burns, first vice president; Mrs. Opal Henry, treasurer; Mrs. Clell Courtney and
Mrs. Edward Johns, color guards; Mrs. Fred Moon, chaplain, and Mrs. Mary
Cunningham, custodian.
Not in the picture are Mrs. Frank Helinsky, sergeant-at-arms; Mrs. Myrtle
Miller, musician, and Mrs. William Albine, color bearer.
Mrs. Burns served as sergeant-at-arms for the installation exercises and Mrs.
Reed was the installing officer.
Four Gold star Mothers of the Fayette Chapter, Uniontown, were guests. They are:
Mrs. Lucy Cavalcante, assistant department treasurer; Mrs. Leo Jones, Mrs.
Joseph W. Mueseler and Mrs. Frank Lukaszcyk.
Mrs. Cavalcante presented jewelry from the department to the new and retiring
presidents, Mrs. DuShaw and Mrs. Richter, respectively.
During the supplementary business meeting a donation was authorized for a
Christmas fund. Mrs. Sadie McClintock was reported on the sick list.
A door prize, donated by Mrs. Richter, went to Mrs. Jones
After the meeting a lunch was served by Mrs. Richter, Mrs. Kelly, Mrs. Johns and
Mrs. Walters. Centering the table were fall flowers of golden hue, flanked by
gold tapers. Favors were nut cups to which were attached card board "turkeys."
A Christmas party will be held December 10 in the Legion Home. Members will
bring "toys for tots." sponsored by the U. S. Marine Corps.
