Morning Herald March 7, 1944
     Private Herbert Matthews, located near Los Angeles with the tank corps, 
arrived in the city last night to spend a furlough with his mother, Mrs. 
Sebina O. Matthews, of Walnut Street.  Private Matthews was identified for 
many years with The Evening Standard as a circulation department district 
manager before joining the colors last July.
