Herald/Standard March 15, 1941
One of a series of post-nuptial courtesies for Mrs. Clifford Bailey, a
popular bride of mid-winter, took the form of a shower last evening at the
home of Patti Curstead, of Brownfield.
Rooms of the hostess' residence were colorfully decorated in green and
white, carrying out the St. Patrick's Day theme, with a generous sprinkling of
miniature white pipes and green shamrocks, while games providing entertainment
were complimentary to the bride, who was Annette Rumbaugh prior to her
marriage of January 18.
Each guest hemmed and embroidered her initials on small squares of
cheesecloth which at their completion were presented to the bride with this
verse attached:
"Dust on Monday, when the washing's through,
Dust on Tuesday, then the ironing do,
Dust on Wednesday, after mending's done,
Dust on Thursday, then to bridge club run,
Dust on Friday, after you scrub and sigh,
Dust on Saturday, as you bake a pie,
Sunday, off to church, a day of colors gay and bright,
Then begins the new week, time to dust again.
So we've made you dusters with colors gay and bright,
Stitches may be wobbly, but hold our wishes tight.
Remember, use them daily, they'll make dusting fun,
May they bring you pleasure, each and every one."
Refreshments carried out the St. Patrick's day spirit, with green and
white shamrocks centering the ice cream molds.
A clever scheme was used to reveal the hiding places of the gifts, each
green balloon which formed a part of the colorful decorations in the room,
containing a small slip of paper upon which were printed verses and riddles
revealing where the treasured gifts could be found, thus requiring the guest
of honor to burst each balloon before finding needed instructions.
Guests were Mary Louise Silbaugh, Anna Kathryn Bradley, Jean Patterson,
Pauline Worthington, Hazel Gwynne, Florence Curstead, Jean Beatty, Edna Mae
Curstead, Marguerite Dutton, Ruth Sowers, the guest of honor Mrs. Clifford
Bailey; Mrs. Nell Curstead, Mrs. Sarah Rumbaugh, and Patti Curstead.
