Media Hospital Put Up For Sale By Dr. Schoff

There is a for sale sign on Media Hospital, Baltimore pike
 and Providence road.

Dr. Charles H. Schoff, who established the hospital in 1909
and still operates it, said today that running the hospital has
become too much work and responsibility for him. The physician,
who is in his 70's, said problems of maintaining the nursing staff
and other problems have gotten so great he doesn't feel he can
 carry on.

The property runs between three and four acres with frontage
of 350 feet on the Baltimore pike and Providence road sides. The
real estate belongs to the doctor's two daughters.

The hospital first was located at 102 W. Front street, and then
was moved to Olive street opposite the courthouse. About 38
years ago, Dr. Schoff took the present building and remodeled
 and enlarged it.

The hospital building itself is very historical. Before Media
became a borough, it was known as the Providence Inn and also
 as the Anvil.

Election of the first Media borough officials took place there
March 15, 1850. A post office was operated in the building at
 one time.

The agents are Sweeny and Clyde, of Chester. Dr. Schoff
said he did not know whether the purchaser would continue to
operate a hospital there or would convert the property to other
 use.
