                           Delaware County Republican

STRUCK BY LIGHTNING - On Thursday evening of last week,
during a thunderstorm which passed over our county (Delaware),
the barn of JABEZ LAWTON, of Nether Providence, was struck
by lightning, and, with its contents, consisting of wheat, oats, and
hay entirely consumed. Mr. LAWTON had been engaged in hauling
in his oats, and had left the barn but a moment previous to its
being struck. The shock prostrated him, and when he recovered, he
found the flames had progressed so rapidly as to render the saving
of any of the articles within the building impossible. A large tree,
standing near the barn, was struck at the same time, and riven into
splinters. We are told that there was no insurance upon the building
or crops - The loss is therefore a serious one.
