Huston History Sketches
Uncle Jerry Hewitt and Family

Jeremiah, "Uncle Jerry," was the third child of Ebenezer Hewitt. He did not
make his life home in this valley, but resided on Toby, dying there in 1894,
past 80 years of age. He married Mariah, daughter of William Hoyt. The latter
was one of the Huston pioneers, and, as will be seen when these sketches treat
of the Hoyt's, William was the substantial trunk of a very creditable family
tree.

Note the given names of this pair. No doubt at the wedding, the guests
repressed a smile with effort, "when the person said, "Jeremiah, will you have
Mariah," etc., and vice versa.

The children of this family were Leona S., now the wife of Elias Horning, of
Mill Run; Wm, E., deceased; Mrs. Malava Kyler; Armina, now Mrs. Chas. Rodgers,
and John, who are out west; Mrs. Aurilla Bundy, and Armissa, deceased.

Mrs. Elias Horning is the only one of these children who has made her home in
the valley. There were nine children in this family of whom four are departed
from earth, and only one, Mrs. W.J. Lanich is at present living here. Mary
resides at Pittsburg, Dora and Jessie at Findlay, Ohio, and Essie (Mrs. L.A.
Schriever) at St. Marys.
Allen Rosenkrans.
