Charles Speakman and his Fiancee, Miss Beatrice V. Campbell , both of
Coatesville, attempted to allude their friends when they boarded a train on
the W.&C. Division of the P.&R.R.,yesterday morning for Wilmington, Del.,from
which place they journeyed to Gretna Green, Elkton, Md., and were married, it
is said by Rev. John McElmoyle, at the Presbyertian parsonage.
Charles Cpeakman is a popular member of the Brandywine Fire Company, and
when his associates, a bunch of volunteer firemen, saw them leaving town
yesterday they at once suspected they were going to get married.
The pair arrived home last evening but at the firehouse Speakman denied
that he had gone away to get married. He told of a fatal accident that he saw
in Wilmington Delaware, when a man was almost cut in twin on the railroad, but
was very firmabout not acknowledging his marriage.
Mr. and Mrs. Speakman both reside on Harmony street. The bride is righteen
years old, while, the groom, who is employed in Wroth Bros. Mills, is almost
of age, "When I get married you`ll all know it," declared young Speakman to
the firemen last evening, "and I will live up to my promise and have a setout
for the "boys," he added.
