Montgomery Ledger, 10/23/1866 edition:
Mysterious Death - William SLONAKER, of West Vincent township,
Chester county, died on Saturday last, of injuries rceived in
some way about six weeks ago. He had gone out in the evening
to put some cattle in a field, and not returning, a search was
made, and he was found lying near the entrance to the field,
in an insensible condition. Upon examination a cut and bruise
were found on his forehead, which indented his skull, and
produced concussion of the brain. From this injury he suffered
until Saturday, when death intervened. During all this time,
he has remained in an insensible condition, with the exception
of a few intervals, and, in these, although able to converse,
he was entirely unable to give any explanation of the manner in
which he received the injury. By some it is believed that his
horse kicked him, by others that he fell into an apopletic fit,
and by some that he was knocked down by some person, in the
evening, in order to rob him of a considerable amount of money
that he carried about him for several days, but had paid away
that day. Mr. SLONAKER was a single man, about aged 40 years,
and a highly esteemed citizen by every one who knew him.
