Morning Republican
James Ewing, of Pottstown, paid a visit to his aged parents John and Catherine
Ewing, in Warwick Township, Chester County, a few days ago. He found his
father busy fixing a hydraulic ram and his mother standing on a stonewall
picking cherries, both being well and hearty. Considering their ages the
activity of this couple is remarkable. Mr. Ewing was born November 6, 1801,
and will soon be 93 years old; Mrs. Ewing was born February 28, 1806, and is
in her 89th year. They were married, John and Catherine Hager, on the 27th of
August 1836, nearly 68 years ago. They rode horseback upon two grey horses,
to the residence of Rev. Levi Bull, D.D., and were wedded by him before
breakfast. Mrs. Ewing resides in the house in which she was born and has
lived there all her life.
