Raftsman's Journal. (Clearfield, Pa.) April 14, 1858
On the first inst., Fred Kummacher, a German farmer, in company with his son,
visited Conemaugh boro to collect back rent of a tenant named Joseph Baker.
Baker was absent, but his wife and brother Peter were there. He demanded his money,
which, not forth coming, he threatened to seize upon the furniture. Peter Baker
ordered him to leave the house. Kummacher picked up a stick and struck him. Baker
seized a shot gun and discharged its contents in K.'s left breast. Ten shot were
lodged in it, three or them deep in the heart. He is dead. Baker escaped, and had
not been arrested at last accounts.
