SHOP LABORER HURT WHEN HANDLE BROKE

William Rife, Aged 19, Injured With Others While at Work Saturday

  William Rife, aged 19, 415 Twenty-fourth street, employed as a laborer at the 
Pennsy tin shop, suffered an injury to his back and to his right ankle at 10 
a.m. Saturday when he fell back after a cart handle snapped.
  Rife was wheeling the cart through the shop at Twelfth street, when the handle 
suddenly broke. He was precipitated backward. He was taken to Altoona hospital, 
but nothing more than a slight sprain to the man's back was found, and the ankle 
injury. After dispensary treatment, he went home.
  William C. Hurm, aged 26, of 103 Second avenue, a brakeman, had his right leg 
contused when the end-gate of a car fell at Fourth street yard Saturday, Carl 
Baumgartner, aged 26, 705 Walnut avenue, was struck on the head and suffered a 
scalp wound when a chain broke at Hollidaysburg at 11 a.m. Saturday. He is a car 
repairman.
  John C. Clemson, aged 21, of 2627 Broad avenue, sprained his back working at 
the Pennsy station Saturday. Michael Rubine, aged 26, of 827 Third avenue, 
lacerated his right wrist and Otto Winkelbauer, aged 29, 1537 Twelfth avenue, 
contused his right great toe. Lawrence Reese, aged 28, of Twenty-second avenue, 
fell and lacerated his scalp, slightly. All were given attention at the hospital 
dispensary.
