Blair County Woman Marks 100th Birthday

  Mary E. Hoover Clapper, Hollidaysburg, recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

  She was honored at a church service at the Woodbury Brethren in Christ Church.  
A song was presented by the women's quartet from Carson Valley Brethren.  Mrs. 
Clapper lives in her home of 51 years under the care of her oldest son.  She was 
born June 17, 1899, to the late Rev. Blair S. and Ella Mae Hoover.  She was one 
of 10 children and four of her brothers are still living.  She was married to 
the late David B. Clapper, who was a railroad worker, minister and farmer.  They 
had four sons.  One is deceased.  
  Mrs. Clapper was an elementary educator in the Allegheny Township,
Hollidaysburg and Altoona School districts.  She is a member if the Carson 
Valley Church of the Brethren and also attends the Eight Square Brethren Church.  
She is a former Bible teacher.
  Her celebration was attended by guests from Texas as well as her brother and 
his wife from California.
  Mrs. Clapper enjoys traveling and still mowed her own grass until age 95. 
  "Work never killed anyone when done properly" and "You are what you eat," are 
her two philosophies to live by.
