SOLDIER SENIORS TO GET SHEEPSKINS

Others in Army Service to Get Certificates  -  Commencement Program Announced

  The four seniors in the Altoona High school who have left their studies to 
enlist in the United States army will be granted diplomas at the Commencement 
exercises which are to be held on Thursday evening, it has been announced. The 
students so affected are Roy Knepper, Oscar Gamber, Charles McDonough and Paul 
Lingenfelter. Five other students who were with the class during the junior 
year enlisted last summer. They will be granted special certificates.
  The program for the senior oratorical contest which is to be held this 
evening at 8 o'clock in the High school is as follows: Music, High school 
orchestra; "The New Democracy" by Fred Cover; "The Man Behind the Scene" by 
Harrison Holtsinger.  Music by the High school orchestra; "The Holy Land" by 
Alexander Kanfar; "Where To, Mother?" by Herbert Kleine; "Civilization" by 
Donald McGraw; "Over the Top" by William Roelofs. Music by orchestra. Decision 
by the judges.
  Dr. Layton has announced the program for the Commencement exercises on 
Thursday evening which are as follows:
  March by High school orchestra.
  Invocation by Rev. George F. Snyder, pastor St. Paul's Lutheran church.
  "Legend of the Bells," from Chimes of Normandy, by mixed chorus of twenty 
voices.
  Salutatory by Miss Mildred Elizabeth Orr.
  Quartet: Piano, Gertrude Herr; violin, Robert Leman; cello, Rolf Nugent and 
flute, Paul Parker.
  Commencement addresses by Rev. Dr. S. Parkes Cadman, pastor of Second 
Congregational church, Brooklyn, N.Y.
  Selection by High school orchestra.
  Valedictory by Miss Eva M. Gobrecht.
  Presentation of diplomas by President W. F. Eberle.
  "Come Where My Love Lies Dreaming" by Girls' glee club.
  Presentation of prizes and medals.
  March, Orchestra.
  Three additional names have been placed on the roll of the graduating class, 
making a total, in addition to the four youths in the United States service, of 
225.
