  MURDER TRIAL

  Of Moses Chivers Begins Next Monday.
  Defendant Indicted for the Killing
  Of James Cummings, Who Died From Effects of a Beating Received.

    The murder case of Ohio vs. Moses Chivers for the beating of
  James Cummings on July 15th, 1905, resulting in his death on July
  25th, begins in Common Pleas Court on Monday. There is considerable
  interest manifest in the case and its outcome.  It is thought several
  days will be consumed securing a jury.  Prosecuting Attorney Alban
  will be assisted by Henry Gregg, Esq., while P.P. Lewis and Dio
  Rogers will represent the defense.
    The State has summoned these witnesses: Mrs. Sarah Baird, James
  Baird, Wm. Zinsser, Mrs. Henrietta Fogo, Dr. T. W. Walker, Warren
  Strong, Thos. Boyd, Edw. Zimmerman, R.I. Scott, Stanley Pearson, Mrs.

    Man on Trial for Murder Names Former Waynesburger as Criminal.

  Steubenville, O., March 19---[Special.]---Testimony in the trial of
  Moses Chivers for the alleged murder of James Cummings of Pittsburg
  closed this afternoon.  The last witness was Chivers, who denied any
  connection with the crime.
    He placed the guilt on Richard Jenkins, whom he said he had thus
  far been shielding.  Jenkins formerly lived in Waynesburg, Pa., and was
  once a prize fighter.  Among the character witnesses were several past
  and present National Amalgamated Association officers from Pittsburg.
  
  CHIVERS BLAMES BARKEEP

  Testimony in Trial of Man Accused of Killing James Cummings at
  Steubenville is Closed.
  Steubenville, O., March 19.---Testimony in the trial of Moses
  Chivers, charged with the killing of James Cummings, of Pittsburg,
  closed this afternoon.  The last witness was Chivers, the defendant,
  who placed the blame for the killing on Jenkins who so far he has
  been shielding.  Jenkins is a barkeeper employed by Chivers, and
  these two men are alleged to have beaten Cummings to death while
  robbing him.
    Many witnesses were put on by the defense to prove that Chivers
  was honest in money matters to offset the charge of killing for the
  purpose of robbery.  Among these witnesses were Benjamin I. Davis,
  John Williams, M.F. Tighe, J.A. Bowers, John Pearce, and M.M. Garland.
