Bedford Gazette; Bedford, Pennsylvania December 8, 1899
Schellsburg.

DECEMBER 4.-- The first snow fell last year on November 26, this year on
December 4, in our town.
Mrs. John Williams has been very ill for several weeks.
The Reformed Sunday school is practising [sic] for a Christmas service to be held on
Christmas evening, December 25.
Prof. C. J. Potts and family spent several days in our burgh as the guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dannaker. Prof. and Mrs. Wright also spent Tuesday and
Wednesday with friends in our town.
At a union service held in the Presbyterian church on Thanksgiving Day Rev. W.
A. Lepley of the Methodist Episcopal church, preached the sermon. It was
brief, thoughtful and to the point.
Mrs. George Colvin, of the Western hotel, gave an excellent dinner on Thursday
to a number of invited guests. All present enjoyed themselves and spent the
afternoon in a social way. If any one went away hungry it was his own fault,
for the twenty-five pound turkey was more than enough to satisfy all.
On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. John Ross gave a dinner social at their home on Main
street. Those present were Rev. W. A. Lepley and wife, Rev. W. H. Schuyler,
Ph. D., and wife, Rev. D. G. Hetrick and wife, Hon. I. Conley and wife, A. E.
Schell, Dr. W. W. VanOrmer and wife and Miss Lizzie Schell. Dr. VanOrmer
proved that he is not only a good dentist but also a good surgeon by the way
he cut up the turkey. After all had done justice to Mrs. Ross' capital dinner
the afternoon was spent in pleasing and profitable conversation and all went
away feeling that it was good thus to spend a part of a day in a social way.
