Alfred Sumpter, Retired Farmer, Dies at Grove 

Alfred Sumpter, 84, prominent retired farmer of Union 
Grove, died at his home this morning. Born in 
Lincolnshire, England, Oct. 16, 1853, Mr. Sumpter came 
with his parents to America in 1854. The family settled 
on a farm near Union Grove.

Mr. Sumpter was reared on the farm and operated one 
continuously until a few years ago, when he retired and 
moved to Union Grove. For 50 years, Mr. Sumpter was a 
member of the Union Grove Congregational church, and he 
was a deacon in the church for 40 years. Surviving are 
two sons,: Henry A.
and Victor L. Sumpter; a daughter, Miss L. Esther 
Sumpter, of Union Grove; a granddaughter, two grandsons, 
three great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Fannie 
Murgatroyd, of Wisconsin Rapids, and a brother, Alex 
Sumpter, of Union Grove. Funeral services will be held 
Friday at 2 p.m. in the Union Grove Congregational 
church, Rev. Mrs. Frank Dexter officiating. Burial will 
be in Union Grove cemetery.

Friends may call at the Rohde-Strouf funeral home in 
Union Grove Friday morning and until service time.
