A girl by the name of Taylor eloped with a man named Osborne, and went to a shanty owned by John Dennis, where they were taken in. The father followed her, and armed with a butcher knife, entered the shanty, and threatened to kill her. Dennis interfered, upon which he attacked him with the knife; the latter then, in self-defence, seized a hatchet and striking Taylor, fractured his skull. Dennis went to Blairsville to give himself up; but as the offense was perpetrated in another county, the magistrates there would take no part in the matter, and Dennis was permitted to go at large.
