Merle C. Brown Sr., 87, of Latrobe (formerly of Ligonier RD 2) died Monday,
Sept. 4, 1995, at Loyalhanna Care Center, near Latrobe. He was born Feb. 16,
1908, in Acme, a son of the late Harry F. and Mary (Miller) Brown. He was a
retired self-employed timberman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by his wife, Viola (Dillinger) Brown; three sons, Gerald, Russell and
Gilbert; two grandchildren, Bobbi Jo Rolla and Merle Henry Haase; two brothers,
Ben and David, and four sisters, Nellie White, Erna Snyder, Edith Mowry and
Beaulah Foreman. He is survived by five sons, D. Glenn of Latrobe RD 1, Phillip
H. of Latrobe, Merle C. Jr. of Latrobe RD 4 and Larry B. of Latrobe; four
daughters, Mrs. Carrie Legas of Latrobe RD 1, Mrs. Theodore (Doris) Haase of
Blairsville, Mrs. Ethel Ridenour of Latrobe and Mrs. Robert (Sylvia) Rolla of
Latrobe RD 1; 42 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson;
two brothers, Elmer of Acme and Will H. of Jones Mills; two sisters, Sadie
Straun of White and Dorothy Myers of Scottdale, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and noon to 9 p.m. Thursday
in Gaut-Bache Funeral Home Inc., Pleasant Unity. Funeral service will be held at
11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Chad W. Somerville officiating.
Interment will follow In Brown's Cemetery, Saltlick Township.
