James R. Beatty II, 88, of Latrobe died Thursday, June 25, 1992, in Latrobe Area
Hospital. He was born July 27, 1903, in Clarion, a son of the late James R. and
Priscilla Simpson Beatty. Prior to his retirement in 1968, he was a school
teacher for over 40 years, serving in the Greater Latrobe School District and
the Summerville School District in Jefferson County. He was a member of the F &
AM Lodge 277 of Clarion for over 50 years and the Associate Artists of
Pittsburgh; a former member of the Greensburg Art Club; a former member and
chairman of the board for the Chestnut Ridge Chapter of the American Red Cross,
and the former adviser for the Greater Latrobe High School Student Council and
National Honor Society. He was Instrumental in establishing the Greater Latrobe
High School Art Collection, beginning the Hundred Friends of Art in 1936. He was
a graduate of Clarion Normal University. He received a bachelor of science
degree from The Pennsylvania State University and a master of arts degree from
the University of Pittsburgh. He was a member and elder of Latrobe Presbyterian
Church. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife,
Caroline Stromquist Beatty; his second wife, Martha Orsborne Beatty; two
brothers, Turner B. and William W., and two sisters, Irene Beatty Wolff and
Lenore Beatty Jones. Surviving are a son, James R. III of Coronado, Calif.; a
daughter, Mrs. Edward (Priscilla) Douglas of Richmond Heights, Ohio; five
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Sunday in Hartman/ Graziano Funeral Home, Latrobe, where the service will be
held at 10 a.m. Monday with the Rev. David B. Batchelder and the Rev. Dr. Reld
W. Stewart co-officiating. Interment will follow in Clarion Cemetery, Clarion.
