Will of Peter Trexler
In the name of God, Amen. This seventeenth day of December in the year
of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty-four, I, Peter Trexler, of
the Township of Macongy (sic) in the County of Bucks and Province of
Pennsylvania, husbandman, being old and weak in body, but of perfect mind and
memory, thanks be given unto God therefore, calling unto mind the mortality of
my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die, do make and
ordain this my last will and testament. That is to say, principally and first
of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it, and
for my body I recommend when it is time to the earth to be buried in a
Christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my executor. Nothing
doubting, but at the general resurrection, I shall receive the same again by
the mighty power of God. And as touching this worldly estate wherewith it hath
pleased God to bless me in this world, I give, devise and dispose of the same
in the following manner and form;
Imprimis, It is my will and I do order that in the first place all my
just debts and funeral charges be paid and satisfied.
Item. I give and bequeath unto Catherine, my dearly beloved wife,
after my decease, a good living place in my house and sufficient meat,
apparrel (sic), and living goods, and seventy shillings lawful money of this
province, if they can live together. But if they cannot, then I give unto her
six pounds lawful money of the said province yearly, as long as she lives, out
of my estate.
Item. I give unto my well beloved son, Peter Trexler, whom I likewise
constitute, make and ordain my only and sole executor of this my last will and
testament, all and singular two hundred and thirty-eight acres of free land,
with a warrant for fifty acres, and all the improvements, houses, creatures,
and all what belong to them, messuages and tenements to him his heirs and
assigns, forever.
Item. Unto John Trexler, my youngest son, I give sixty-five pounds
current lawful money of Pennsylvania, to be raised and levied out of my estate
to be paid to him, his heirs and assigns.
Item. I give unto Jeremiah Trexler, my oldest son, twenty pounds good
and lawful money of the aforesaid province to be likewise raised and levied
out of my estate to be paid to him or to assigns.
Item. Unto Anna Trexler, the first of my daughters, I give twenty
pounds of lawful money aforesaid to be raised and levied out of my estate to
be paid to her or to her assigns.
Item. Unto Catherine Trexler, the second of my daughters, I give
likewise twenty pounds of lawful money aforesaid to be raised and levied out
of my estate to be paid to her or her assigns.
Item. Unto Margaret Trexler, the third of my daughters, I give unto
her twenty pounds of good and lawful money aforesaid to be raised and levied
out of my estate to be paid unto her or her assigns.
Item. What belongs to the payment of the four last named children
there shall be paid unto everyone the first year five pounds and the second
five pounds, until they have each one their twenty pounds, which I gave unto
them, unto my estate, and that will make four payments in four years every
fall fair.
And I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all and every
former testaments, wills, legacies and executors by me in any ways before this
time named, willed and bequeathed. Ratifying and confirming this and no other
to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my
hand and seal, the day and year above written.
Peter (his mark) Trexler (seal).
Signed, sealed, published, pronounced and declared by the said Peter
Trexler as his last will and testament in the presence of us, the subscribers,
Guillie Grimm and George Schumback.
